Born in Italy, fluent in four languages and a passionate opera buff, Ms. Cefis, 54, is an executive vice-president of Bank of Nova Scotia and head of global transaction banking - a unit that pulls together packages of services for globe-trotting customers. Her work has won her accolades, most recently when she made the elite list of USBanker magazine's 25 most powerful women in banking.
