Chrysler deal pulls Daimler to $2.18-billion loss

The Associated Press

FRANKFURT — Auto maker Daimler AG, which sold off most of its stake in Chrysler earlier this year, posted a loss of €1.53-billion euros ($2.18-billion U.S.) for the third quarter, largely because of write-offs related to the deal.

Analysts had expected a loss, given the Chrysler sale. The company reported a profit of €868-million a year earlier. Excluding the charges related to Chrysler, the company said it would have posted a profit of €1.1 billion.
