Provinces urge Dodge not to hike rates

Ontario led the charge for the provinces Wednesday in pressing Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge not to raise interest rates, at an Ottawa-area meeting of finance ministers from across the country. Ontario Finance Minister Gregory Sorbara made the case at a retreat in Meech Lake, Que., that higher rates would further hurt manufacturers which have already been hammered by the surging value of the Canadian dollar over its U.S. counterpart.
