OTTAWA (Reuters) - TransAlta Corp.
TransAlta, which will construct, own and operate a wind power facility in New Brunswick, said the project's capital cost is estimated at C$130 million ($111 million). Terms of the agreement are confidential and the project is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2008.
Construction of the single-site, 25-turbine wind farm in the Kent Hills area of New Brunswick is expected to start by early 2008. Once complete, it will provide 220,000 megawatt hours per year, the company said, enough electricity to meet the needs of about 13,600 homes.
With the addition of Kent Hills, TransAlta will operate approximately 260 megawatts of wind-generated power in Canada. TransAlta said it has tripled its wind business since acquiring Vision Quest Windelectric in 2002.
