Ampac Fine Chemicals LLC Receives the California Pollution Prevention Challenge Award for the Third Year in a Row

11:32 EDT Tuesday, July 21, 2009

LAS VEGAS, July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Pacific Corporation (Nasdaq: APFC) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Ampac Fine Chemicals LLC (AFC) has received recognition from the Department of Toxic Substances Control of California (DTSC) and the Chemical Industry Council of California (CICC) Pollution Prevention Challenge Program for the "implementation of streamlined sustainable cleaning activities in its chemical manufacturing process."

Dr. Aslam Malik, President of Ampac Fine Chemicals LLC, said: "This third award from DTSC and CICC shows AFC's dedication to continuous improvements. Through the selection of better processes we reduce cycle time, emissions, raw material usage and waste and thus benefit the environment and at the same time enhance our profitability."

"Being able to achieve these reductions in waste and to address important environmental issues is especially challenging in the light of the highly FDA-regulated operating environment," said Jeff Robinson, Vice President of Quality Operations and Regulatory Affairs.

Martha Murray, Director, EH&S Compliance added: "We are very thankful to the CICC and the DTSC to have implemented the Pollution Prevention Challenge Award. This effort helps to bring companies, such as AFC, and regulatory agencies together, first to know each other better as well as to discuss the ever growing issues related to pollution and sustainability. This will promote better legislation and a better environment for the surrounding communities."

The plaque was presented to Jill Dapremont, Environmental Manager, Martha Murray and Jeff Robinson, by Maziar Movassaghi, acting director of DTSC, along with Tim Ogburn from DTSC and John Ulrich from CICC.
