Raymond Gosselin to receive Lifetime Achievement Award
NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The general membership of the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame voted to induct three new individuals at their Annual Awards Dinner to be held February 10, 2009 at the Pierre hotel in New York. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be given.
The 2009 inductees into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame are:
Ronald Pantello, who began his advertising career with an account position at Sudler & Hennessey. In 1980 he left Sudler & Hennessey with John Lally and Jim MacFarland to found Lally, MacFarland & Pantello and helped guide Lally MacFarland & Pantello's growth into one of the industry's leading agencies. In 1990 Lally MacFarland & Pantello became part of the Euro RSCG, with Pantello responsible for the formation of a global network. He retired as Chairman in 2007. He has been a long time supporter of the healthcare industry and medical advertising profession, serving in many roles in numerous industry organizations. In 1996, He co-founded the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame and served as its Chairperson until 2005.
Harry Sweeney, who started his career in medical advertising as a copywriter at Lederle Laboratories. He built a reputation as one of the industry's top writers, with stints at Sudler & Hennessey, L.W. Frohlich, Klemtner, and Shaller Rubin. In 1971, he purchased the Dorland Agency and built it into a shop with a reputation for top creative work. In addition to building and managing a successful agency business, he contributed to and served in a long list of industry and agency organizations, playing a key role in the founding of the Medical Advertising Agency Association and the Coalition for Healthcare Communications.
David Wood, who was an innovator and developer in the world of branding. In 1979 he established Interbrand North America and rapidly transformed it into a worldwide company. In 1986 he left Interbrand and formed David R. Wood Associates, a branding consultancy firm. The company was acquired by Interbrand's parent group, Omnicom, and merged to become Interbrand Wood Healthcare. During his career, Wood was involved in the creation of branding for 40 of the world's 100 top selling drugs, including Zocor, Prozac, Viagra, Plavix, Advair, Singular, and Celebrex. David Wood passed away last year at age 64.
In addition to these three inductees, the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame will honor another individual at its Awards Dinner, giving its Lifetime Achievement Award to Raymond Gosselin.
Raymond Gosselin's long career in healthcare included the creation of the first significant market research measurement, the National Prescription Audit, which became an invaluable tool in healthcare marketing. Audatrex, a subsequent product, tracked market penetration, market share development, and physician preference. His company, the R.A. Gosselin became part of IMS Health. In addition to the creation of major industry metrics, he was the longest-serving president of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and served as editor and publisher of Pharmacy Times from 1987 to 1993. He passed away in 1999.
The Medical Advertising Hall of Fame Annual Awards Dinner will be held Tuesday, February 10th, at the Pierre Hotel in New York with a cocktail party beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets for the Dinner will go on sale on the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame Website (http://www.mahf.com) on November 14th.
The Medical Advertising Hall of Fame was founded in 1996 to honor those who have made significant contributions to the medical advertising profession, document the history of the industry, and attract next-generation talent to the medical advertising profession. Its membership is open to healthcare advertising agencies and publications, and currently consists of the leaders nearly 40 agencies and publishing companies.
