Role of Intellectual Property in Creating Sustainable Energy Infrastructure is Topic of IEEE Presentation

15:07 EST Tuesday, November 11, 2008

TOLLAND, Conn., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Nerac Analyst Kevin Closson (http://www.nerac.com/meet_our_analysts.php?id=85&page=2) will present a session titled, "The Role of Intellectual Property in Creating a Global Sustainable Energy Infrastructure," at the IEEE Energy 2030 Conference in Atlanta Nov. 18.

In reviewing current worldwide intellectual property policies, patent pools, open source development, and government intervention, Closson will demonstrate that current government policies are ill designed to support the requirements of a transition to sustainable energy. He will show that not only are national policies inconsistent or completely absent, but also that one nation's policies can work at cross-purposes to other nations' policies. Finally, he will outline a coherent policy for the timely development of the transition to global sustainable energy.

As a Nerac analyst, Closson helps companies to look beyond their business today to see how internal and external forces will shape their futures. He works with clients to identify both new markets for existing products and potential markets for new products. He evaluates the technical features of highly complex components and systems and assesses intellectual property aspects. He also has experience in competitive intelligence, product management, and the commercialization of fundamental scientific and engineering research.

The IEEE Energy 2030 Conference (http://ewh.ieee.org/conf/energy2030/), taking place Nov. 17-18 in Atlanta, is a forum for experts from a broad range of disciplines to exchange ideas on the technology, policy and economic framework required to create a global sustainable energy infrastructure by 2030. The IEEE, as a global technology leader in electrical and related technologies, is uniquely positioned to help define what the transformed infrastructure is likely to look like and initiate discussion on the challenges that need to be overcome to achieve success.
