Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is expected to release a much anticipated code of conduct for the payments industry as early as Thursday morning, according to sources.
The code, which has been in the works for some time, is intended to ensure that credit card and debit card transactions are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
It will lay down guidelines for how the payments industry, including Visa Inc., MasterCard Inc., and the Interac Association, should act as technology and other factors cause competition to heat up.
Besides those players, the code is being watched closely by retail and business groups across the country.
