Toronto Fundraiser for HIV/AIDS Treatment in Africa Gathers Speed
TORONTO, June 30 /CNW/ - On Sunday, July 5, 2009, Dignitas International is inviting Toronto residents to get moving in response to HIV/AIDS in Africa by joining or supporting dozens of teams of bike spinners at Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Enjoy eight hours of live onstage entertainment, including musical performers and celebrity guests, socialize with family, friends and other participants, and know that your efforts will save lives. Dignitas International is a Toronto-based medical humanitarian organization working to increase access to life-saving HIV/AIDS-related prevention and treatment. Dignitas is currently working in Malawi, Africa, where over 900,000 adults and children are living with HIV.
"There are more than 500,000 orphans in Malawi due to AIDS," said James Fraser, Co-Founder of Dignitas International, and a recipient of last year's Globe and Mail Top 40 Under 40. "The country has been devastated by the AIDS pandemic and health systems are overwhelmed. Through our work, hundreds of adults and children are gaining access each month to life-saving medications which means the survival of families and the revitalization of entire communities."
The Race for Dignity Challenge is Dignitas's flagship fundraising event. Last year, Torontonians rose to the challenge and $270,000 was raised directly towards the organization's life-saving work in Malawi.
