SIU Appeals for Witnesses to a Disturbance at the Havelock Jamboree in Peterborough

TORONTO, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is appealing for witnesses to an incident involving officers of the Ontario Provincial Police.

On August 17, 2008 at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance in progress in the camping area of the Havelock Jamboree grounds. They arrested one man whom they placed in the rear of a cruiser and transported to hospital in Peterborough for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The SIU is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident at the Havelock Jamboree grounds on August 17th or who may have any information about it to contact the Unit at 416-622-2314 or 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries (including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police. Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to the Attorney General.
