OMAHA, Neb. (Business Wire) -- Meridian Animal Health, a new Omaha-based companion animal health company, introduces two innovative surgical wound care products available exclusively to veterinarians. Surgi-Lock 2oc is an instant liquid tissue adhesive for veterinary procedures that provides a fast and safe alternative to traditional suture applications. Epi-Heal is a technologically advanced liquid spray bandage specifically designed to provide better wound adhesion and longer lasting adhesion on joints.

"We designed Epi-Heal to be used in conjunction with Surgi-Lock 2oc to reduce pain and itching, help prevent infection and promote healing after surgery. This wound care combination may eliminate the need for the animal to wear an Elizabethan collar after surgery and minimize its discomfort during the healing process," says Caryn Stichler, vice president of marketing at Meridian Animal Health.

Based on 2-octyl cyanoacrylate chemistry, Surgi-Lock 2oc is the safest and strongest instant adhesive technology available and is intended for procedures such as spays, neuters, declaws, tumor removals, biopsies and lacerations. The product is easy to use, with disposable pipettes that allow for multiple uses from a single 2-milliliter vial.

According to Stichler, Epi-Heal provides a waterproof barrier, locking out disease-causing agents by adhering in three ways: flowing into skin crevices to seal the wound, gripping skin tighter when exposed to warm humid conditions and bonding with skin protein. Upon application, the liquid bandage dries and produces a polymer film, which provides protective coating that enhances healing and maintains healthy tissue.

Both Surgi-Lock 2oc and Epi-Heal slough off naturally from the animal's body as it heals. There are no wound dressings to change, minimizing post-surgical care and discomfort for animals.

Both products can be used on canines, felines, equine and small animals.
