CHICAGO (Business Wire) -- Ocean Tomo LLC today announced several recent postings and activity on its newest IP transaction marketplace, the Patent/Bid-Ask(TM) platform, or P/B-A(TM) platform (www.PatentBidAsk.com). Two featured Asks, or offers to sell, including a $3.6M Ask for IP related to Inkjet Digital Printing and a $3M Ask for IP related to therapeutic uses of 13-Cis-Retinoic Acid, are available for immediate purchase and represent a small sampling of the quality and diversity of activity recently initiated on P/B-A.
P/B-A platform is the first web- and voice-enabled marketplace that allows buyers and sellers to submit offers to buy ("Bids") and sell ("Asks") any of the 33 million plus patent assets, or any combination thereof, across 81 countries and patent-issuing authorities in a completely transparent fashion. Pre-qualified bidders may either purchase the IP by matching the seller's Ask price or post a lower Bid price for the seller's consideration. Importantly, bidders may also anonymously post unsolicited Bids to initiate a sale or exclusive license. As a benefit to the IP community, all activity, with the exception of bidder and buyer identity, is posted publicly, making it the first and only global patent price discovery platform.
"We're very pleased with the market's response to the P/B-A platform since its introduction," said Dean Becker, Vice Chairman of Ocean Tomo. "We're receiving numerous inquiries and seeing activity in this exciting new market from a variety of buyers and sellers, ranging from individual inventors to corporate, academic, governmental and private entities."
An Ask of $3.6M was recently posted by Supersample Corp. for four U.S. patents and related IP including U.S. Patent 6,834,935. These IP assets pertain to the inkjet printing of high resolution, art quality images at high speeds on large elongate conveyed fibrous surfaces, such as fabrics and textiles. The described technology allows commonly created digital RGB images, including 24-bit images, to be directly utilized, thus eliminating the step of transforming the signal into multi-color CMY-type separations that is necessary in a conventional printer's raster image processor.
The patents describe methods and apparatuses including one or more ink jet print engines used in series with existing printers or in new printers. Supersample has commercially printed photographs, artwork, and designs on more than 5,000 pieces using this technology, on textiles ranging from silk to cotton, linen, rayon, nylon, leather, hemp and paper.
An Ask of $3M was also recently posted for three U.S. patents, including U.S. Patent 7,071,228. These IP assets pertain to three different therapeutic uses of 13-Cis-Retinoic Acid, also referred to as Isotretinoin which is a form of vitamin A sold under various global tradenames, such as Accutane(R), Sotret(R), Amnesteem(R), Oratane(R), Claravis(R), Aknenormin, Decutan, Ciscutan and Isotane.
The patents describe methods of using 13-Cis-Retinoic Acid to treat three different medical conditions: 1) benign prostatic hyperplasia and other benign prostate conditions; 2) plantar and palmar fibrosis (Dupuytren's contracture); and 3) musculoskeletal and connective tissue inflammations including osteoarthritis and associated articular and periarticular inflammations, and non-articular Rheumatism.
