DUBLIN, Ireland (Business Wire) -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/aff768/china_glyphosate_i) has announced the addition of the "China Glyphosate Industry Report 2008" report to their offering.

Pesticide mainly consists of three categories: herbicide, insecticide and bactericide. According to the data of National Bureau of Statistics, in 2007 the total output of pesticides in China was 1.731 million tons, up 24.3 per cent than 2006. It was the first time that exceeded the United States as the world's largest pesticide production country. In terms of the variety of pesticide, the fastest growing output is herbicide. In 2007, China's output of herbicide was 562,000 tons, an increase of 40.1 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 32.4 per cent of the total output of pesticides.

Glyphosate is a kind of highly effective broad spectrum herbicide with the characteristics of broad spectrum, low toxicity and no residue. Generally all green plants, no matter crop or weed, can be killed once they are sprayed with glyphosate.

On April 2, 2008, Monsanto announced will invest $196 million in the next 18 months to expand its glyphosate plant's capacity in Luning, Louisiana. Expansion project is expected to be completed in the end of 2009 or early 2010, after it starts, the production capacity of Monsanto will increase 20 per cent, about 40,000 tons / year. This project is indicated that Monsanto believes glyphosate will make a prospect of long-term profits.

According to data, by the end of 2007 the production capacity of glyphosate in China was 382,000 tons, but in terms of government environmental policies that most small scale glyphosate manufactories have to close and it is very difficult for them to reach government environmental standards, therefore, the actual capacity of glyphosate estimates about 250,000 tons/per year. But, in the current circumstances of glyphosate in the context of high profits, some small scale manufactories may consider to reopen their production line without permission, add those capacity the total capacity of glyphosate can be reached about 300,000 tons/per year.

The total global capacity of glyphosate was about 570,000 tons in 2007, and in China there are some new production lines will open in the second half of 2008 and the new added capacity will be around 140,000 tons, accounting for 24 per cent of the total global capacity.

The demand of Glyphosate in the global market was 650,000 tons in 2007, and the actual capacity was 570,000 tons approximately, the gap between demand and supply is relatively large. The annual new added demand of Glyphosate is estimated 8-10 million tons in global market, and in an accelerate track. The global demands for glyphosate are expected to add extra 90
