CHICAGO (Business Wire) -- Ocean Tomo Auctions today announced that it will offer for sale two Lots of Telemedicine patents directed to the field of medical communication and information systems at The Ocean Tomo 2008 European Live IP Auction. US Patent 6,278,999 will be offered as Lot 38, and US Patents 5,926,526, 6,192,112, 7,034,691, and 7,209,550 will be offered as Lot 39 at The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam on 26th June.
The '999 patent offered in Lot 38 discloses a system and method for collecting medical information from personal health monitoring devices, storing the data in a database, and analyzing and reporting on the information in a manner that respects the security and privacy of patient-specific data.
"The '999 patent will enable the buyer to establish a proprietary 'smart device' system for collecting any sort of physiological data from a person, then transmitting, storing, analyzing, and reporting it to those with a need to know (doctors, patients, insurers, etc.)," said inventor Terry Knapp, MD.
The patents in Lot 39 disclose a system and method for automating tracking, monitoring, response, follow-up, and initiation of patient communications. Through a user-friendly computer interface and machine-implemented messaging system with IVR and an internet connection, a physician can automatically and rapidly complete tasks such as managing critical care information, classifying patient status and treatment, and initiating communication with patients.
"Our Lot will enable the buyer to resolve long-existing problems associated with critical healthcare provider-to-patient and provider-to-provider communications," said co-inventor Seymour A. Rapaport, MD. "The automated, adaptable system initiates, monitors, routes, and tracks communications and has alert and follow-up protocols to ensure that critical health care communications are made and received."
"The technology facilitates compliance with JCAHO standards requirements in a most efficient manner while simultaneously reducing malpractice risk," added co-inventor Jeffrey A. Rapaport.
Potential acquirers for the aforementioned Lots may include healthcare service providers, hospitals and physicians, medical device manufacturers and records management providers.
