Here are highlights from Monday's Analyst Blog:

Eurand On-Track for Profitability

Eurand NV (Nasdaq: EURX) is a specialty pharmaceutical company, engaging in the development, manufacture and commercialization of enhanced pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products based on its proprietary drug formulation technologies. The FDA accepted the NDA filing for the company's lead candidate, Zentase, as a treatment for pancreatic insufficiency in February 2008 and we expect a response by August 2008.

We are optimistic about the company's technologies and prospects of its drug candidates. Strong sales of Zentase coupled with the royalties on the sales of Cephalon, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: CEPH) Amrix and GlaxoSmithKline's (NYSE: GSK) EUR-1048 (launch by end 2008) will drive the company to profitability in 2008 and beyond.

We are also optimistic about the company's drug formulation technologies and believe the company will continue to be able to execute its plan to monetize these technologies by establishing partnership with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies going forward. We believe Zentase has the 'first mover' advantage over its competitors and will achieve higher market penetration due to its excellent safety and efficacy profile compared to existing PEPs in the market.

Eurand NV is among the few biopharmaceutical companies to boast of a diversified revenue stream. Given our expectations of the approval of Zentase by August 2008 and U.S. launch of EUR-1048 by GSK before year-end, we believe that the company is on-track to achieve profitability in 2008.

The performance of the Zacks Rank portfolios for annual and year-to-date periods are the linked monthly total returns (price changes + dividends) of equal weighted hypothetical portfolios, consisting of those stocks with the indicated Zacks Rank, assuming monthly rebalancing and zero transaction costs. These are not the returns of actual portfolios. The hypothetical portfolios were created at the beginning of each month from January 1988 forward based on the values of the Zacks Rank available to Zacks' clients before the beginning of each month. The portfolios created monthly from 1988 through September 2006 exclude ADRs and are comprised of stocks that have the indicated Zacks Rank and were covered by at least two analysts at the time of the stocks inclusion in the portfolio. Starting in October 2006 and going forward, the portfolios are comprised of all stocks with the indicated Zacks Rank and do not exclude ADRs, which is more reflective of the list of stocks that customers will find on the Zacks web sites. These performance numbers have been audited from 1995 through 2003 by Virchow, Krause & Company, LLP.
