NYTimes.com Announces Classic Crossword Widget

10:21 EDT Wednesday, March 28, 2007

NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- NYTimes.com today announced the Classic Crossword Widget, an online product that gives users the ability to personalize their Google homepage with The New York Times crossword puzzle. The Classic Crossword Widget will feature a rotating selection from The Times's Classic Crossword Archive of over 1,000 crosswords and will offer enhanced functionality. This new product will make the crossword experience more entertaining for everyone, from the most experienced puzzlers to beginners.

In making the announcement, Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com said, "Our puzzles have a huge following. Now our crossword fans can engage with our puzzles right on their Google homepage. It's just another example of our giving our readers what they want, where they want and when they want it."

The Widget includes a puzzle information window containing a summary of puzzle subject and answers, the original puzzle publication date, puzzle editor/credits and advanced user-controlled cell notation with circles. Puzzles will automatically save for completion at a later time, from any computer, when the user logs in to that Google account.

Users of the Classic Crossword Widget will see a new puzzle from the NYTimes.com Archives weekly. The tool, designed and powered by LabPixies, is available now at http://fusion.google.com/ig/add?moduleurl=http://www.nytimes.com/ads/ crosswords/gadget/puzzle.xml or http://www.labpixies.com. (Due to its length, the above URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.)

Subscribers to The Times's Premium Crosswords service can continue to play the NYTimes.com Daily Crosswords at www.nytimes.com/crosswords.

NYTimes.com continues to reach a large, educated and affluent audience. It is the most visited newspaper site in the U.S. with an audience of 13 million unique users (February 2007 - Nielsen//NetRatings).
