SAN DIEGO (Business Wire) -- Captiva Software Corporation (NASDAQ:CPTV), a leading provider of input management solutions, today announced that the Investigative Division of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has elected to expand its use of InputAccel(R), Captiva's award-winning document capture software, to transform paper employment documents into streamlined electronic content. The contract extension includes both InputAccel software and digital scanners and is valued at approximately $500,000.
Widely known as "the federal government's human resources agency," OPM has been tasked to accelerate and streamline security clearances as part of the federal government's electronic "eClearance" initiative for federal employees. The agency will utilize InputAccel to capture, identify and route the 18 million personnel documents it processes annually, which include over 80 different document types such as employment applications, signature forms, release forms, background checks and related paperwork. InputAccel is used to scan the documents to create digital images, recognize the document type and export the resulting electronic content to OPM's secure storage system. By storing investigative files as digital images rather than paper, authorized government agencies have immediate, on-line access to better assess an applicant's security risk level without having to wait to view hard copy documents. The expansion of InputAccel and the purchase of additional digital scanners will enable OPM to move from a pilot program into production and thereby decrease response times and improve coordination among federal agencies.
"OPM has taken significant steps to streamline access to clearance information and make historic investigative files more readily accessible. Through our eClearance initiative, authorized agencies have on-line access to a subject's current clearance status literally at their fingertips," said Stephen Benowitz, OPM's Associate Director for Human Resources Products and Services, in a statement before the US House of Representatives. "OPM is leading the effort to image investigative files in a format that will allow them to be delivered to an adjudicator's desktop electronically, rather than through the conventional, hardcopy process, saving significant time and handling."
"We're pleased OPM has turned to Captiva to help with this important initiative to accelerate its employment and clearance processes," said Howard Dratler, Captiva's Executive Vice President of Field Operations. "One of the many differentiating features of our solutions is their scalability in order to grow with increasing document volumes. This contract reaffirms Captiva's expertise in the federal government market, where we have proven to reduce costs, improve service and achieve regulatory compliance by eliminating dependency on manual paper processes."
