Thomson creates two new senior posts

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Electronic publisher Thomson Corp. said on Thursday it had appointed two insiders to fill newly-created positions of chief technology and operations officer and chief strategy officer.

Chief strategy officer Richard Benson-Armer identify new opportunities, including geographic expansion and development of new groups of knowledge workers, Thomson said.

Benson-Armer, who joined Thomson in 2004, was most recently a senior vice president of strategic planning and business development for Thomson Learning.

Chief technology and operations officer, Michael Wilens will manage corporate technology functions such as security, privacy, and business systems. Wilens, at Thomson for nearly 11 years, was most recently president and chief executive of Thomson Legal and Regulatory North American Legal organization.

Both executives will serve on the executive committee of the company, whose products range from Westlaw legal databases to university textbooks, and report directly to Thomson chief executive Richard Harrington.
