NEW YORK (Business Wire) -- Britney Spears is the world's sexiest woman, topping FHM magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2004 reader poll.
With over one million votes cast by FHM readers worldwide, the final result was a hotly contested victory for pop diva Spears. This is her first title after consistently appearing in the top ten for the last four years. In 2003, Spears was ranked #2.
"Britney Spears defines sexy the world over," said Scott Gramling, FHM editor in chief. "Her videos, her sultry voice, her dance numbers, her red carpet appearances, even in the photos from her Vegas wedding - Britney exudes the kind of sex appeal our readers celebrate in our annual poll."
In addition to Spears, the sexiest women in FHM's 2004 reader poll also includes (2) actress Angelina Jolie, (3) Halle Berry, last year's top vote-getter; (4) Jennifer Garner of Alias fame; (5) Alyssa Milano, a two-time FHM cover girl, and (6) Jennifer Love Hewitt, also a former FHM cover beauty.
Jennifer Lopez, voted FHM's Sexiest Woman in the World in 2000 and 2001, is listed at #7 this year, while Oscar's 2004 best actress Charlize Theron ranks #8, a jump from her 26th place finish in 2003. Rounding out the list at #9 is Pamela Anderson, another FHM cover favorite, and Jessica Simpson, who rocketed from 40th place in 2003 to #10 in this year's poll.
FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2004 contains 23 new entries this year, including Paris Hilton who debuts at #38, the highest ranking among the 2004 100 Sexiest freshman class. Sexy singer Ashanti makes the biggest jump on the list, leaping 44 spots from #76 in 2003 to #32 in 2004. In addition to the dozens of TV and movie stars on the list, FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2004 also includes:
-- 14 recording artists (including Janet Jackson at #19 and Beyonce at #12)
-- 5 athletes - including February cover girl and snowboarder Tara Dakides (whose sexy good looks weren't at all affected when she took a nose-dive off a half-pipe on The Late Show with David Letterman)
