Champion Bear announces appointment of Chief Financial Officer

CALGARY, Dec. 13 /CNW/ - (TSX Venture: CBA) - Champion Bear Resources Ltd. ("Champion Bear" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that Mr. Kenneth A. Hawrelak, C.A. has been appointed to the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Company. In addition, Richard D. Kantor, the President of the Company, has assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Hawrelak is the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Watts Griffis McOuat Limited, a firm of Consulting Geologists and Engineers and is the Chief Financial Officer of MineralFields 2004 Inc. and also the Chief Financial Officer of MineralFields 2003 Inc. (the general partner of another publicly placed MineralFields flow-through limited partnership). Mr. Hawrelak is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of experience in the mining industry. He has held senior financial management positions with both publicly-traded and privately-owned companies involved in base, precious metal and coal mining operations. He has also been a senior executive with companies providing engineering and contracting services to the international mining community. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Hawrelak served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Rux Resources Inc., a junior resource company engaged in the development of gold mines in Russia and certain republics of the former Soviet Union. He was responsible for the financial evaluation of several gold projects and negotiation of equity interests in the joint ventures to develop these mines. From 1987 to 1996, Mr. Hawrelak served as a Director and Chief Financial Officer of Hillborough Resources Ltd., a junior public company, engaged in the production of thermal coal for export markets primarily to Japan. The company held a joint venture interest in a base metal project and was also involved in mineral exploration and development, and provision of engineering, construction, and contracting services to the mining industry in North America and Mexico. Mr. Hawrelak was a key member of a team of management and professional advisors that negotiated a complex financing and corporate restructuring for the expansion of the company's thermal coal operations. From 1984 to 1987, and from 1976 to 1984, Mr. Hawrelak was Vice President, Finance and Corporate Secretary for Canadian Mine Development Ltd. and Canadian Mine Services Ltd., respectively, and developed the management, financial and regulatory reporting systems of these privately held engineering and contracting companies with international operations. He was responsible for all aspects of taxation, treasury and insurance with these companies. Mr. Hawrelak is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, and a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
In connection with Mr. Hawrelak's appointment as Chief Financial Officer, the Company has agreed, subject to receipt of applicable regulatory approval, to grant Mr. Hawrelak 100,000 options to purchase common shares of the Company at an exercise price of $0.80 per share, and vesting as to 25% immediately and 25% on each of the six month, twelve month and eighteen month anniversaries of the date of grant, exercisable for a period of five years.
Champion Bear is a mineral exploration company focused exclusively on the historically prospective regions of Ontario. The Company's primary target is platinum group and precious metals and to a lesser extent polymetallic base metal and pegmatite-hosted tantalum deposits. Champion Bear's aim is to create shareholder value through selective property acquisition and joint venture followed by focused exploration emphasizing drilling.
