The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bryce Walker as Vice-Chair, HOOPP Board of Trustees. Mr. Walker brings with him a wealth of experience in healthcare and education governance. He is past Chair of Wilfrid Laurier University’s Board of Governors, as well as past Chair of Grand River Hospital’s Board of Directors. Grand River Hospital is one of Ontario’s largest community hospitals located in the Waterloo region.
Mr. Walker’s professional experience includes his role as Senior Vice-President of Group Benefits for Manulife Financial, from which he has retired. He has a Bachelor of Math degree from the University of Waterloo, is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds an ICD.D designation from Rotman.
HOOPP is jointly governed by a Board of Trustees. Half of the trustees are appointed by the Ontario Hospital Association, and the other half by four unions – the Ontario Nurses’ Association, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the Service Employees International Union.
Created in 1960 and recognized in 2010 as one of Canada’s Ten Most Admired Corporate Cultures, HOOPP is the pension plan of choice for Ontario’s hospital and community-based healthcare sector, with over 370 participating employers and more than 270,000 plan members and retirees. HOOPP invests the assets of its $40 billion Fund, administers the Plan and pays more than $1.3 billion per year in pension benefits.
