Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of TELUS Corporation, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark W. Schnarr as Executive Vice President TELUS Ventures. In his role, Mark will be responsible for managing the company's venture capital which will be targeted at incubating start-up businesses and investing in emerging technologies that are consistent with TELUS's strategy to exploit the convergence of data, Internet Protocol (IP) and mobility.

The new unit will enable TELUS to be a financial, technical and strategic partner to entrepreneurs with promising ideas. This will provide TELUS customers with access to the latest innovations that complement TELUS's core products and services. In collaboration with TELUS's business units, Mark and his team will develop the corporate incubation and venture programs.

Mark joined BC TEL as a product manager in 1980 and subsequently held senior management positions in the Portable Communications Division, BC TEL Mobility and the Business Division. In 1988, he was appointed Vice President and General Manager responsible for the start-up of BC TEL Systems Support Inc. In 1995, he was named Vice President and General Manager, BC TEL. Enhanced Services and in 1996 Vice President and General Manager, BC TEL Interactive. After the BC TELECOM/TELUS merger in February 1999, he assumed the role of Vice President, Internet Services in TELUS. There he was responsible for a number of new IP-based companies, technologies and services including (ISP); the myTELUS network of portals (, and, e-business solutions, enhanced data and internetworking services.

Mark received his bachelor of arts (marketing) degree from the School of Business Administration and Economics, Simon Fraser University, and has his Canadian Securities Course Certificate. He is a member of the board for the TELUS New Media and Broadcast Fund, NewMIC (New Media Innovation Centre), Pacific Place Communications and Science World.
