Philip G. Ponting
Mary E. Hofstetter, President & CEO of The Banff Centre, is pleased to announce the appointment of Philip G. Ponting as Chair of the Board of Governors of The Banff Centre. Mr. Ponting has served as a Governor of The Banff Centre since 1996, and is Chair of The Banff Centre Foundation.
Mr. Ponting is senior partner in the Calgary office of McLennan Ross L.L.P., and practices administrative law with the major focus of his work being in employment law. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelor of commerce in 1968, obtained his bachelor of laws from Queen’s University in 1972, and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1973. Mr. Ponting was appointed Queen’s Counsel by the Government of Canada in 1985.
Mr. Ponting is Chair of the Calgary Convention Centre Authority, a Board member of Promoting Calgary Inc., and a member of the Advisory councils of both the School of Business at the University of Alberta and the Faculty of Law at Queen's University. Mr. Ponting served as Chair of the Board responsible for the construction and opening of the Francis Winspear Centre for Music; and in 1998, he was inducted into the City of Edmonton Cultural Hall of Fame.
The Banff Centre is Canada's only learning and cultural centre dedicated to the arts, leadership development, and mountain culture. Programs enrich professional practice beyond the realm of traditional education.
