Scotiabank is pleased to announce the appointment of Barry Luter to the position of Senior Executive Vice-President of Scotiabank and head of Scotia Capital's U.S. and European Operations. Based in New York, Mr. Luter will spearhead the group's continued relationship banking growth strategies in the U.S. and European markets.
Mr. Luter first joined Scotiabank in London, England in 1969 and transferred to Toronto two years later. He has worked in audit, international corporate credit and corporate banking, becoming Assistant General Manager, Corporate Banking, in New York in 1986 and then Senior Vice-President, Corporate Banking, in London, England the following year. Mr. Luter returned to Toronto in 1990 as Executive Vice-President of Retail Banking and two years later moved back to New York as EVP, Corporate Banking. Most recently, Mr. Luter was Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of Scotia Capital.
Mr. Luter is Chairman of Scotiabank Inc. and Scotiabank Europe plc, and a director of The Bank of Nova Scotia Trust Company of New York. He also serves on the boards of several other Scotiabank subsidiaries.
