Lawson A.W. Hunter
From The Globe and Mail

Stikeman Elliott LLP announces the appointment of Lawson A.W. Hunter, Q.C. to the firm’s Ottawa office as Counsel. Mr. Hunter returns to Stikeman Elliott after five years as Executive Vice-President and Chief Corporate Officer of Bell Canada. This service with Bell – which included specific responsibility for regulatory affairs and public policy, as well as key roles in major transactions including the creation of Bell Aliant – followed Mr. Hunter’s 10 years as head of Stikeman Elliott’s Competition/Antitrust Group. Mr. Hunter also spent a number of years in the federal public service, during which he led Canada’s competition regulator and was primarily responsible for the drafting of the 1986 Competition Act.

As Counsel, Mr. Hunter will draw on his experience to expand Stikeman Elliott’s Ottawa-based federal regulatory practice, which he was instrumental in building in his previous tenure with the firm. His recent regulatory, public policy and business experience, together with his exceptional understanding of competition law, will be valuable assets to the firm and its many Canadian and international clients.

A national firm of more than 500 lawyers, Stikeman Elliott is recognized worldwide for the sophistication of its business law practice. The firm is frequently ranked in domestic and international league tables as Canada’s leader in M&A and corporate finance and is widely recognized for its strong reputation in competition/antitrust, telecommunications, intellectual property, technology, business litigation, tax, energy, real estate, mining and banking law. It was named Canada’s Best Corporate & Commercial Team for 2008 by World Finance magazine, and Canadian Law Firm of the Year for 2007 by the International Financial Law Review. In addition to its office in Ottawa, Stikeman Elliott serves its clients from Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, Vancouver, London, New York and Sydney.
