McMaster University announces the election of Donald M. Green as chair of the University Board of Governors. Mr. Green succeeds Edward W. Buffett as Chair.

Mr. Green has been a member of McMaster’s Board of Governors since 1998, and has served as Vice-Chair since 2003. As a business leader, he was for 35 years Chair and CEO of the international auto parts manufacturer, Tridon Ltd., and is now chair and CEO of Greenfleet Ltd., a private investment company. He is incoming Chair of Riverdale Amendments and a director of Audience View Software Corp.

Mr. Green holds an engineering degree from Ryerson Polytechnic University, along with Business Administration certifications from the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University. He served for 13 years as Director of the National Bank of Canada, six years as Founding Chairman of Innovation Ontario Corporation, and 20 years as Governor of the Ontario Research Foundation. He has been honoured with the First Ryerson University Alumni Achievement Award (1998), the Honorary Member OACETT “CET” designation (1996), and the Administrative Manager of the Year Award, presented by the Institute of Certified Administrative Managers of Ontario (1986). He received the Order of Canada in 1980.

One of Mr. Green’s sporting interests has been sailing. He was the skipper of the yacht Evergreen, which he sailed to victory in the 1978 Canada’s Cup, returning the Cup to Canada.
