Following a global search, the board of SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that Robert G. Card assumed the role of President and CEO, and became a member of its Board of Directors on October 1, 2012.
Mr. Card has excellent credentials as an international engineering, construction and operations business leader. He has almost 40 years of experience in the operations and management of infrastructure and energy projects across the industry, and was previously with the CH2M Hill Companies Ltd. group, a Fortune 500 engineering services firm with 30,000 staff, a presence in more than 80 countries and $6 billion in annual revenues.
At CH2M Hill, Mr. Card was a member of the company’s Board of Directors, and held a variety of positions, including President and Group Chief Executive of the International division; President of the Government, Environment & Nuclear division; President of the Facilities & Infrastructure division; and President of the Energy, Water & Facilities division. From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Card oversaw the $7 billion cleanup and decommissioning of the Rocky Flats nuclear facility for the U.S. Department of Energy. More recently, he acted as COO for the consortia responsible for the successful delivery of the $15 billion London Olympics complex.
Between 2001 and 2004, Mr. Card acted as Under Secretary to the U.S. Department of Energy, a Senate-approved presidential appointment in which he oversaw 65,000 federal and contract employees, and a budget in excess of $14 billion.
Mr. Card holds a Master’s degree in Environmental and Civil Engineering from Stanford, and has completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
Mr. Card succeeds Ian A. Bourne, who has served as the company’s Vice-Chairman and Interim CEO since March, 2012.
