The Members of the Global Risk Institute in Financial Services (GRI) are pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Cantor as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute.
Mr. Cantor is Senior Advisor at Bennett Jones, LLP and Chair of the Board of Directors at Revera Inc. He also serves as Chair of the Board of ING Bank of Canada’s Risk and Investment Committee, and on the Board of Intact Financial Corporation.
Mr. Cantor was Chair of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments), Chair of the Board of Governors at York University, Chairman and CEO of National Trust Company, President and CEO of Confederation Life, and President, CIBC Investment Bank. Mr. Cantor was the Canadian Managing Partner of Russell Reynolds Associates, and was the founding Executive Director of the Toronto International Leadership Centre, sponsored by the World Bank, the Canadian Government and York University. Following Ontario bar admission, he joined the Government of Canada’s Department of Finance, and thereafter, the crown corporation, Polysar Limited. Earlier, he served on the World University Service of Canada national secretariat.
In the past, Mr Cantor’s acted as Chair of the ICD Task Force on the Governance of Executive Compensation, served on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s International Capital Markets Committee, Revenue Canada Taxation’s Advisory Committee, and on the Ontario Premier’s Council on Economic Renewal.
GRI is a public-private partnership, established with the support of the Governments of Canada and Ontario, and leading firms and professional associations in Canada’s financial services sector. The Institute will pursue applied research and offer education across multiple risk management disciplines. It will help foster a deeper understanding of risk, and serve as a forum for dialogue between financial sector practitioners, policy-makers, and the academic community. The Institute is part of Toronto region's global hub strategy, sponsored by the Toronto Financial Services Alliance.
