Gordon Pape's 2001 Buyer's Guide to RRSPs
By Gordon Pape and David Tafler
Prentice-Hall Canada, 340 pages

Gordon Pape's mutual fund and RRSP advisory machine turns out excellent if often similar guides to their subjects. This version of his RRSP and LIF guide, previously reviewed, is rather more a strategy plan for retirement savings and less of an index of suitable mutual funds. Nevertheless, many of the fund descriptions in the RRSP-LIF guide are repeated word for word in this book. That said, there is valuable content in the 2001 Buyer's Guide, which is the 12th edition of the work. It brings up to date the changes in the October, 2000 budget that raised the foreign content limit to 25 per cent for 2000 and to 30 per cent for 2001. The guide notes the end of the proposed federal Seniors Benefit and the erosive effects of broadening rules for the federal Home Buyers Plan. For a walk through the fine points of Registered Education Savings Plan transfers to RRSPs and other fine points of regulations, this is a valuable guide. It's also one that can be found in other books by Mr. Pape's very productive RRSP and mutual fund shop.
